Naturally kinky, curly hair can easily go from bouncy, shiny, well-moisturized curls to a dried up stack of hay. It can undoubtedly be a frustrating experience but one of the tried and true ways to remedy the issue is treating your curls to a hot oil treatment. The reason hot oil treatments work is because the heated oil is able to penetrate into the hair shaft to deliver long lasting moisture, nutrients, and the shine that naturally curly hair loves.

Applying a hot oil treatment can be super simple and make a huge difference when using the right products. To begin:

Start out with a cleansing shampoo

When applying any treatment, you want to start with a clean head of hair and scalp. Wash your hair with a gentle but effective shampoo like the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo. Afterwards, separate your hair into 4 to 5 manageable sections.

Warm up your oil

The star of the show is the oil when it comes to a hot oil treatment. Choose a nutrient, multi-blend oil that will leave your hair moisturized for weeks afterwards. Shea Moisture’s Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Complex is an excellent oil that will leave your hair moisturized and your strands strong. Heat up a bowl of water and put the entire bottle in the bowl of warmed water to heat up the oil. Saturate each section with the warmed oil, smoothing it through the strands. Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap for 20-30 minutes to allow the oil to continue to penetrate into strands.

Rinse
